  2. Although this British double CD does include a lot of music (35 tracks), and a lot of the best music Bobby Womack made between the late '60s and mid-'80s, it doesn't score the highest marks for packaging. Original release dates aren't given for all of the tracks, the non-chronological sequencing seems random, and not all of the songs seem to be the best that could have been selected.
  3. Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out - Bobby Womack, Cox; Lookin' for a Love - Bobby Womack, Alexander; Medley: Monologue/(They Long to Be) Close to You; You're Welcome, Stop on By; That's the Way I Feel About Cha; Harry Hippie - Bobby Womack, Ford; Behind Closed Doors - Bobby Womack, O'Dell;
  4. One of Bobby Womack's better albums, Communication is also one of the most stylistically varied. Several of the songs feature his trademark monologues, usually about love, although the one that precedes his version of the Carpenters' "Close to You" is a diatribe against the music business ("Anything I can get into is commercial enough," he declares).8/

  6. On "Fire And Rain" the James Taylor hit is re-harmonized to bring out it's gospel/soul influence. The real highlite is the nearly ten minute medley of The Carpenters "Close To You",beginning with a spoken word dialog from Womack about the pressures he had from record companies earlier in his career to commercialize his sound/5(12).
  7. First heard the album Understanding on the Trevor Nelson Soul show on Radio2 the songs he played were incredible and blew me away by how good they were, once I came home I orderded this double cd, impressed with Womack's cover versions of songs especially James Taylor's Fire and Rain which is so soulful, superb album and well recommended/5(19).
